It may not be enough to simply import your .wab from Outlook Express into Windows Live Mail (WLM). The problem being Outlook Express saves a persons name as “name” and not “first name” and then “last name.” Windows Live mail may not auto fill correctly when you type in a persons name. Here is how you fix it. 1. Assuming you have your .wab (Windows address book) already copied and moved over to your new...
Windows XP life cycle should be standard moving forward
I can’t imagine how much money Microsoft has made in the last year. All of the businesses out there purging Windows XP from being used under their roof. All of the consumers running XP seeing the news of it’s end of life, and then upgrading to a newer Windows. The numbers must be astronomical for Microsoft. My fear is they might get greedy and decide to do this again but only sooner for the outstanding supported versions of...
The great 2014 Windows XP Exodus
Ex*o*dus a going out; a departure or emigration, usually of a large number of people: the summer exodus to the country and shore. Yes it is upon us the twilight final days of Windows XP. From the definition above it could mean going to the country or the shore. Nine out of ten times this is the solution to the problem they are having. When they are typing they rest their wrists on the laptop. Their...
Glued down power jack on a Lenovo Ideapad U400 laptop
For anyone trying to replace the power jack on a Lenovo Ideapad U400 I wish you luck. After tearing the laptop down and getting to the power jack you are presented with a major problem. Lenovo who I thought was one of the “good guys” in the computer world has decided to follow Apple down the road of “don’t try to fix your computer” mentality. Here is what happens when you get to the part of taking the power jack out...
I’ve seen a rash of Seagate 2.5″ hard drive failures in the past week
During this week beginning August 13, 2012 I’ve seen four Seagate 2.5″ hard drives fail. All of the drives except one are the 500gb size. The other one was a Seagate ST9640320AS 640gb 2.5″ . This is the first time I’ve ever come across a certain brand and size range fail in multiples all in a week. I will try to get the model numbers for you, but I believe they were all the Momentus model. Maybe it was a coincidence...
